were Radio 95 in Tampere,Radio Rasputin
in Lahti, Radio Mikkeli in Mikkeli,
Radio Nova in Rauma, but there were
stations in other major cities, too.
Finnish PTL started soon action against
free radios because they were afraid of
ordinary people beginning to help
pirates. People could even have started
asking for more radio stations.
In the early 1980's PTL raided quite
a few stations in but a few years. On
SW amongst others Radio El Bimbo, Radio
El Condorpasa and Sound of Finland were
raided in 1980. On FM victims included
Radio 95, Radio Rasputin, Radio Anarki
and several others. In lower courts of
law operators were fined for 30'000 FIM
or even more. That scared several other
free radio enthusiasts to cease trans-
missions, which was exactly what PTL
wanted.
Radio 95 from Tampere took their case
to the Court of Appeal in 1984.In lower
courts the operators had been fined for
65'000 marks, but the Court of Appeal
lowered the sum down to 600 FIM! But
this information came in too late since

many stations had closed down earlier.
After the beginning of 80's the Free
radio activity in Finland hasn't been
too great. In 1985 the first commercial
local radios started in Finland. We
must thank all pirates for that since
they were the first to get people think
that there could be other voices on the
radio besides YLE (PBC of Finland).
Because the pirates were mostly fight-
ing for private local radios, many of
them finished. But some people weren't
still satisfied. There were such people
in Jyvaskyla, and they founded a new
free radio station called Right-Wing
Radio (RWR), which was to become the
best-known and the strongest FM-pirate.
In the third, and the last, part of
this series of articles we'll take a
closer look at Right Wing Radio.
